MARIETTA, GA — Cobb County is encouraging everyone to join together as a community to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy on Monday, Jan. 21. The celebration starts at 10 a.m. and will be held at Turner Chapel AME Church. WSB-TV anchor Fred Blankenship will serve as emcee and there will be many talented entertainment performances, all with messages that convey Dr. King’s lifelong dedication to freedom, justice and equality for all.
The event will also feature the annual presentation of the "Living the Dream" award by the Cobb branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. This honor is given to community members who demonstrate leadership and commitment to making our county more diverse and inclusive. Past recipients include Dr. Betty Siegel, Deane Bonner, David Hankerson, Lee Rhyant, Sam Olens, Shan Cooper and Dr. Emily Lembeck.
This annual celebration is hosted by Cobb County Government and the Cobb NAACP. Turner Chapel AME Church is located at 492 North Marietta Parkway NE, Marietta.
